The holidays are finally here along with a little cool weather thankfully. Now while you prepare your homes for big family meals and curling around the fire or fake fireplace on TV for us Floridians. I know what I think of is how to get out and enjoy time with my family outside the house. We are lucky in our area that there is plenty to do during the holiday season and pretty moderate temperatures to be able to enjoy it.
From New Tampa to ST. Pete, there is fun to be had whether you enjoy Ice skating or holiday tree lighting. Even holiday parades and snowball fights (yes snowball fights in Florida) You can be filled with mirth and good cheer no matter where you live Tampa Bay. Here are some places you can go to feel the holiday spirit this season:
St. Petersburg Tree Lighting: The tree went up in Ybor last week (before Thanksgiving!), and now, it’s St. Petersburg’s turn. Mayor Rick Kriseman flips the switch to illuminate the city’s Christmas tree in North Straub Park on Friday along with live entertainment, interactive games and music, food. Free. (727) 893-7441 .
Tampa’s Downtown on Ice: Yes, you can ice skate outdoors in Florida. The annual ice skating rink is open almost daily through Jan. 3 in Tampa’s Curtis Hixon Park, and each $12, 90-minute session includes skate rental. (813) 966-5505.
Tampa’s annual Tree Lighting Ceremony: on Friday, Dec. 4 in Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park. Festivities begin at 6 p.m. with the dynamic sounds of the Late Night Brass. The evening will also include a Christmas Market and free movie in the park featuring National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.
Santa Fest: Curtis Hixon park, on Saturday Dec. 5th, complete with a holiday parade, make-and-take crafts, hands-on games and activities, and more.
